Authority really has some very negative connotations for many people. They speak to me of dictators, abuse, and control, of power gone awry. They shudder at the thought of anyone ever having authority over them.
Sadly, this resistance to the idea of authority sometimes actually translates over and taints relationships with God Himself. Some people perceive God as a tyrant, even as Al Capone, extorting protection money and favor, so they reject Him entirely, or else transform Him into a softer, gentler perception, a God who does not claim authority over anything or anyone.
The idea of men ever having anything resembling authority over women is likely to get you kicked out of the girl club amidst much shrieking about equality. Men should never have authority over anything, ever!
